Dr. Alice Hines has been an active board member of the ARVAC Board of Directors for ten years, representing the Low Income Sector, and is currently serving as secretary. She is a citizen of Menifee, Arkansas, where she was born and raised and is an active member of Zion Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she teaches adult Sunday school.

On Thursday, November 14th members of the Junior Auxiliary of Russellville hosted a Literacy Night at the ARVAC Head Start Center. Each child got to take home their own copy of the book "If You Give a Mouse a Brownie" along with a goodie bag.

By teaching basic gardening skills to the clients we serve at the ARVAC Freedom House, we allow them to develop an idea of where food comes from and the hard work that goes in to preparing the food, as well as introduce them to healthy options for the dinner table. This provides individuals with life skills to extend to the community by working in groups, sharing knowledge, and opens connections with others interested in cultivation, increasing opportunities for healthy dialogue and a healthy sober hobby.

Low-income elderly individuals spend most of their household income on utilities, medicine, fuel costs and trips to the doctor’s office. Too often, low-income households will have to choose between buying their medicine and paying a utility bill. ARVAC's assistance programs have been helping the community since 1965.
