Arkansas Low-Income Energy Assistance Program Legal Notice – 10/16/2017
If you have received low energy assistance through the Arkansas Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and have applied through the Arkansas River Valley Area Council (ARVAC) Inc., your application and demographic information including name, address, date of birth, and partial social security number may have been compromised through a cybersecurity incident. It has been determined through an investigation that unauthorized access to Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) information occurred on September 10, 2017, through a cyber-security attack. The Arkansas River Valley Area Council discovered the incident on September 11, 2017. The nonprofit agency promptly initiated an investigation that involved telecommunication professionals, local law enforcement, the Arkansas Attorney General, state association directors, area attorneys, and other authorities. Since the discovery of the incident, all local and remote access to this information through the agency’s server has been blocked. The agency has installed new servers and security devices to continue to serve those of low-income through the Arkansas Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
